Stainless steel

Falks Metall has extensive experience of processing and turning stainless steel.

Stainless steel is an iron alloy, with at least 10.5% chromium (according to EN 10088) which often has good resistance to corrosion (rust) and other chemical attacks.

Stainless steel corrodes much more slowly than carbon steel due to its alloying with chromium and is therefore useful in industries such as the food industry and marine environments. In addition to iron and chromium, acid-resistant or acid-resistant steels also contain nickel, which stabilizes the structure. Acid-resistant steel is used in environments with more noticeable chemical stresses, e.g. in pipe fittings, stainless steel screws and nuts, fittings and machine parts intended for the marine environment, as well as details that come into contact with acids. We process acid-resistant stainless steel alloys daily.

Examples of stainless materials are 1.4301 (AISI304), 1.4307, 1.4436 (AISI316), 1.4305 (AISI303), 1.4404 (AISI316L) and 1.4547 (254 SMO®).

For those of you who are in need of welding of tough stainless materials such as 254 SMO®, we have partners for this as well. Read more here about turning 254 SMO®.
